RE:   Biennial Resolutions

The resolutions listed on this site came before the Resolutions Committee at its August 12, 2001, meeting and its recommendations for action by the Boston Biennial.

Under the Bylaws, congregations may submit proposed amendments to the Resolutions Committee up to November 25, 2001, ten days before the Biennial begins. It is preferable that amendments be submitted by e-mail to Michael Ryle, resolutions@uahc.org, or by mail, Resolutions Committee Staff; 633 Third Avenue, 7th Floor; New York, NY 10017-6778; phone 212.650.4160; fax 212.650.4229;. New resolutions may be submitted by a majority of the registered delegates of at least five constituent congregations up to the second day of the Biennial. Other resolutions may also be presented at the Biennial by Committees of the General Assembly. For your guidance, please see the Bylaws provision pertaining to resolutions.

We are publishing these resolutions sufficiently far in advance of the Biennial to allow our congregations to hold congregational or board meetings to obtain a sense of the congregation's attitudes concerning the issues addressed in the resolutions. This process would expose your Biennial delegates to the congregation's views to guide them in voting on the resolutions at the Biennial. Please note that the resolutions may be amended and additional resolutions may be presented at the Biennial. Furthermore, much informative debate takes place at the Biennial. Therefore, it may not be practical to specifically instruct delegates' voting. Instead, you may wish to give your delegates discretion to vote according to developments on the Biennial floor.

NOTE: Unfortunately a resolution dealing with the pardon of Marc Rich, submitted by a member congregation before the resolutions committee was constituted was unable to be located. We are asking that the congregation, which submitted such a resolution, contact Michael Ryle, resolutions@uahc.org, as soon as possible.
