The Shabbat Experience

CELEBRATE SHABBAT IN BOSTON

A twenty-four hour magical, mystical, spiritual experience of worship, rest, singing, celebrating, reflecting, studying, and eating. From the joyful Kabbalat Shabbat welcome to the sweet-smelling Havdalah separation, we will experience the essence of Shabbat joy, holiness, and rest.

A
sk returning attendees what they’re looking forward to the most, and you’re sure to hear “Shabbat.” Twenty-four hours of joy, holiness, rest, and worship. You’ll be inspired… revived… relaxed… and transformed.

Let them build for Me a sanctuary that
I may dwell among them.

For twenty-four hours, the Boston Hynes Convention Center’s Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium will be trans-formed into a holy space, a sanctuary. Imagine!… 5,000 Reform Jews welcoming the Sabbath at Kabbalat Shabbat services. What a reception for the Sabbath bride!

Shabbat continues with—what else?—Shabbat dinner. Light the candles, share the challah, drink the wine with others from your UAHC region during a relaxing Shabbat meal… but don’t plan on sleeping yet!

Break forth into song…

It’s a Biennial tradition… a rousing late night sing-along with the best song leaders in the Reform Movement. Whether you can carry a tune or prefer to just clap your hands, you’ll join in old favorites and learn new.

And the study of Torah leads to them all…

A bagel and a book… what better way to begin Shabbat morning than in a small group, studying parashat hashavuah with one of our Movement’s leading scholars and rabbis? This is followed by morning t’filah, when all 5,000 of us will gather to pray, chant Torah, and hear the stirring words of Rabbi Eric Yoffie’s
presidential sermon.

Remember the Sabbath… and keep it holy…

Shabbat k’dushah—the holiness of Shabbat—continues with Shabbat study luncheons led by distinguished leading scholars from Boston-area universities and HUC–JIR (note: you must preregister for your choice of topic), Shabbat afternoon programs, and Havdalah.
